The property market in Dubai has attracted worldwide attention since May 2002, when the Government of Dubai issued a law legalising foreign ownership of properties in select areas of the city. During the last few years though the Dubai property market there has experienced an even more tumultuous time than Western economies with property prices falling by over 50%. Dubai as an economic hub of the region has suffered greatly since early 2008 coinciding with the global credit crisis.
On a more positive note, economic activity has started to pick up again, although it will take many years before the highs of 2007 are to be achieved again. Many of the ex-pats who left the region after the property crash are beginning to return as the emirate has begun to refocus on it's strongest sectors - trade, logistics and tourism. There are tender signs that this pattern is also starting to turn.
